Research Understanding
I began the research phase with the Indian context in mind. A preliminary investigation helped answer overarching questions like — 'Where do stray animals fit in Indian society? What initiatives has the Govt. taken towards animal welfare? Who are the key NGOs making an impact in this domain? How do they conduct rescues and adoptions?'
From these answers, I stated two key hypotheses,
Animal rescues are challenging. They require committed rescuers and trained volunteers from the NGO.
Animal adoption, while not the favored trend, is slowly gaining popularity among Indians. I evaluated these hypotheses further through online surveys and in-depth interviews.
They provided deeper insights on
How Indians perceived stray animals
Their personal experiences with rescues
Their willingness to use a rescue app
Their willingness to adopt.
To understand an NGO's role and perspective, I approached Bluecross, an NGO based in Hyderabad & also Pan-india. for an interview. They gave me critical information on their adoption process and how they conducted rescues.
Experience Strategy
The research phase revealed the biggest areas for design intervention. Based on the findings, I created a UX blueprint to focus the design direction. It outlines specific challenges and aspirations for the app to address. Looking at this way, I could envision how the app would function, what would be its primary features and where it was headed in the long term.
Guiding Principles
Informed by these challenges and aspirations, I defined the guiding principles that would direct the app's overall experience. These principles were a constant reminder that every small detail in the app had to add meaning to the bigger picture.
Persona
